I have a special free weekly clinic dedicated to the treatment of PTSD. The clinic is open to all veterans and their families. I use an ear acupuncture protocol developed specifically for trauma and used in clinics across the country for the after affects of trauma of all kinds. Patients are treated fully clothed while sitting. Acupuncturists without Borders has also sponsored clinics across the country specifically for returning vets with PTSD, and my clinic is one of those. It's a safe, comfortable environment dedicated to vets alone, and has been very successful in treating the anxiety, nightmares, and flashbacks many of them have been experiencing. I welcome and encourage vets to take advantage of this weekly service.

My personal experience with the military culture began as a child, having spent six years on a Naval base in the Philippines as well as some time on a base in Morocco. As a teacher in Norfolk, Virginia during the Vietnam war, many of my students were from military families, including one POW family and one MIA family. My subsequent training and experience in counseling includes work with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, grief and loss, stress management, and relationship issues, with a special interest in the needs of teens and children dealing with the deployment or reintegration of a parent.
I believe that counseling provides opportunities for self-awareness and personal growth within the context of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. I recognize and appreciate the sacrifice that our veterans and their families make to protect our country, and this is one small way that I can say "thank you."

I believe that counseling works best using a team approach between the counselor and client who has come to receive assistance in exploring and gaining understanding in areas of personal life. My goal is to help a client gain the confidence and skill to take responsibility for thoughts and behaviors, and to learn to make desired changes in life patterns. I have worked with couples planning marriage (about to be deployed or just returned) and those working on relational issues after marriage. I have facilitated domestic violence groups so I also have experience with this issue. I incorporate cognitive and behavioral therapy with a Rogerian emphasis on empathic listening. My values are part of me and will influence my therapy, but I believe that there are many paths and do not seek to have a client walk mine.

I specialize in treating children in play therapy, and also assisting parents and families to support children through life's difficult times. I also support parents through parent training/coaching, either in an individual or group format.

Play therapy is an effective approach to treatment with children, and utilizes a child's natural language--play! Play therapy is effective in treating many concerns such as grief/loss, depression, impulse control, PTSD, trauma, anger, social concerns, and more.

I regularly run a girls body image group, aimed at assisting girls in forming their own healthy sense of self concept and body image, amidst the pressures of society and mass media.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding play therapy, parenting, or if you have interest in a body image group for your child. I'd be honored to help.

I have been in private practice since 1991, and am also a teacher and supervisor of counseling and clinical social work. I work mainly with couples and adult individuals experiencing problems of depression, anxiety, addictive and compulsive behaviors, and/or other mental and emotional health conditions. In particular, I specialize in working with the impact of acute and chronic stress and trauma on both individual functioning and relationship intimacy. My approach is strengths-based and collaborative, meaning that I assume that individuals and families already have the inner and outer resources they need to solve their problems and cope with their difficulties, and that my job is to help clients to access, recruit and deploy those resources effectively. I utilize an array of evidence-based, best-practice therapy methods, based on the needs, preferences and problems of each client I see.

The trauma of war can lead to anger at, confusion about, and resentment toward life, fate, and/or God. It is easy to lose meaning and purpose. Regardless of your faith tradition, or lack thereof, spiritual guidance and support can help release some of the pain of war. Although I have training in some counseling techniques and will at times use some of those techniques, I am not a licensed therapist and do not provide ongoing mental health counseling. My focus is on helping you process the spiritual pain related to trauma, especially the trauma of war. I am a professional chaplain with experience working with clients who have a history of trauma and addiction, including veterans.

Most people come to counseling with some sort of distress that they want to relieve as soon as possible. I use as many resources as possible to help my clients accomplish the changes they chose and relieve their distress. I try to build on each client's strengths and insights adding my skills, knowledge, professional training and any appropriate community health care, social and educational networks. Sometimes people will come to counseling for personal growth and exploration. In that situation the focus is more on active interaction with deeper parts of the client's personality than it is on reducing distress. I work with my clients to discern the exact nature of the problem or changes they want to make and create a plan with them for their counseling experience. I use various techniques depending on the client's level of development, learning style, presenting issue and belief system. It is important to me that we work as a team to achieve success in making the changes the client has chosen.

For pain relief, injury recovery and relaxation, I use the gentle positioning of Ortho-Bionomy®, to allow your body to hit the reset button. It is a bodywork modality that respects your body's intelligence to return it to balance. It is effective for pain, stress relief, muscle spasms, and metabolic issues. I may combine it with Craniosacral which releases neurologically stored issues. I may suggest home exercises to continue the benefits on your own.

I also can use Mindful Awareness in Bodywork Therapy (MABT). It combines my touch with your intentional focus on sensation and the breath, to integrate your awareness with inner bodily experience.

I recommend comfortable, loose fitting clothing for all sessions.

Call and leave a message to let me know you are from RVP. Then you can schedule online from my website. I will see you for as many sessions as required to resolve your issues, within my scope of practice.

I find it an honor to offer my services to veterans and their spouses or partners. Thank you!

I offer supportive psychotherapy and counseling services for individuals, couples and families. My practice serves people with health-related concerns as well as more general issues including stress and relationship concerns.

In terms of experience with the military population, I direct a research project sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health for OIF/OEF veterans and their families. The project is called "Mission Reconnect" and focuses on teaching stress reduction and relationship skills to help with reintegration after return from deployment. I have worked with members of the Oregon National Guard in this project, and found that both veterans and their partners can benefit from learning some simple strategies they can use individually or together to help with reintegration.

I recognize that PTSD, TBI, and mild TBI are more common than many people realize. I can offer support to help cope with and manage these conditions. In addition I have found meditation and other mind/body skills to be helpful both for veterans and their partners. I also recognize that unemployment or underemployment is a real source of stress for many veterans. I don't have any easy answers for this, but can support and encourage exploration of creative ideas in this area.

I appreciate the sacrifices that both veterans and their families have made, and welcome the opportunity to provide what support I can.

Acupuncture is a powerful modality that works to balance the body, calm the mind and bring the individual back to a place of original health. It is still being studied how acupuncture works precisely. Many studies have shown, blood hormone balance, pain relief and relaxation after treatments. Acupuncture can be of benefit for musculoskeletal issues, endocrine and hormone imbalances, anxiety, PTSD, allergies and immune problems, headaches and many more issues. Treatments are private one hour sessions that will focus on whatever is requested.

Acupuncture Effect and Central Autonomic Regulation
Qian-Qian Li, Guang-Xia Shi, Qian Xu, Jing Wang, Cun-Zhi Liu,* and Lin-Peng Wang

Abstract
Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique and part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Acupuncture has clinical efficacy on various autonomic nerve-related disorders, such as cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, anxiety and nervousness, circadian rhythm disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and subfertility. An increasing number of studies have demonstrated that acupuncture can control autonomic nerve system (ANS) functions including blood pressure, pupil size, skin conductance, skin temperature, muscle sympathetic nerve activities, heart rate and/or pulse rate, and heart rate variability. Emerging evidence indicates that acupuncture treatment not only activates distinct brain regions in different kinds of diseases caused by imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic activities, but also modulates adaptive neurotransmitter in related brain regions to alleviate autonomic response. This review focused on the central mechanism of acupuncture in modulating various autonomic responses, which might provide neurobiological foundations for acupuncture effects
1. Introduction
Acupuncture has been practiced for over 3000 years with beneficial clinical effects on many disorders [1]. There is sufficient evidence of the value of acupuncture to expand its application into conventional medicine and to encourage further studies of its physiological and clinical values [2]. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), “acupuncture is believed to restore the balance between Yin and Yang.” This can be translated into the Western medicine terminology as “acupuncture modulates the imbalance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic activity......

I deeply appreciate veterans and their families who have given so much to the USA in conditions no one can understand unless they have been there.
